Greg's day out

India cricket coach Greg Chappell, in the midst of controversy after Sachin Tendulkar's outburst against him, said he would not renew his contract with the Board of Control for Cricket in India on Wednesday.

He cited family and personal reasons for his decision.

Chappell, who was appointed coach till the end of World Cup 2007 in May 2005, sent an e-mail to BCCI administrative head Ratnakar Shetty conveying his decision not to continue as coach.

India failed to progress to the second round of the ongoing World Cup after losing to Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah, in a statement, informed that Chappell personally spoke with president Sharad Pawar. The Australian will meet Pawar in Mumbai on April 6 to present his World Cup report to the Working Committee.

In his statement, Chappell thanked the BCCI for giving him the opportunity to coach the Indian team for the past 22 months.
